Relief Printmaking

Saturdays, June 15-22, 10am-2pm (two sessions)

Ideal follow-up workshop to Quick and Dirty Printmaking! Relief prints are created through carving an image into a surface, adding ink and transferring the inked image onto paper. You will learn to carve and print a unique two-layer linoleum relief print. All supplies included.

Quick & Dirty Printmaking

Bring a friend or family member and have fun in this sampling printmaking workshop. Using materials you already have at home, we will create monoprints, collagraphs, relief prints and more. No prior experience needed. All supplies included.

Explore bookbinding techniques easily adapted for uses such as travel memoirs, artist's sketch books or family photos. Develop layout skills and practice three bookbinding techniques. Complete three hand-bound books.

Bookbinding 2

Tuesdays, June 11-25, 2019; 7 PM (3 sessions)

Apply introductory bookbinding skills to the creation of three books. Examine a short history and the fundamentals of: Japanese stab and Coptic stitch binding, along with flag book techniques. Identify future projects to utilize tools and skills.

Bookbinding: Special Projects

Saturday, July 13, 2019; 9 AM (1 session)

Develop advanced bookbinding skills by creating two books. Explore complex techniques that challenge skills. Identify future projects to use tools and new techniques. $70+ includes $22 fee. Prerequisites: CFT 390 Introduction to Bookbinding or permission of instructor. Students should bring bone folder, needles and awl to class. All other supplies will be provided.

Altered Book

Tuesdays, September 25 – October 8, 2019; 6:30 – 8:30 pm

Design an art object from an existing printed book. The book is altered through whatever means or media you choose. Use your chosen book as a canvas to apply paint, collage or rubber stamping to create a unique art object! $99+ includes $27 fee.     

NOTE: Students need to provide 2 small - medium hardback books, scissors, washi tape and various memorabilia for project.

Sintra Printed Flag Book

Create a one-of-a-kind, sculptural book that is deceptively simple but has infinite possibilities. This stunning structure was created by Hedi Kyle for her book, April Diary. In this hands-on workshop, you will print 3-5 images with Sintra to use in the creation of your flag book. The first day will be focused on printing, and the second day will be focused on assembling the books.
